¶3 NWA IN DEEP SHIT?????
¶1Eazy has produced Penthouse's latest
12". Dre goes to court against Eazy,
claiming Eazy for stolen his money.
Well, if you've read many music mags
and watched MTV lately, you've
probably noticed that rap group NWA
has got a lot of problems. When I
first got to know all the romours I
didn't really know if I should
believe it or not. BUT, now that MC
Ren and Dr.Dre have released their
solo albums, many unanswered quesions
has been answered. Let's take a look
at them:
First out is MC Ren's "Kizz My Black
AZZ". This isn't really the final
resoult, it's just six songs from
the upcoming album "Life Sentence".
The first song on the album (after
the intro) is "Behind The Scenes".
This is an exiting sexual experience
on a funky hardcore instrumental.
Next out is "Final Frontier",
where Ren explains how he kicks ass
and all that. I think that this
song could be taken straight out of
NWA latest CD "Niggaz4life".
Another cool song is "Right Up My
Alley". In this song MC Ren talks
about the life in th ghetto.
This isn't like Grandmaster
Flash's "The Message", it's more
violent: "I sell my dope, and I
ain't ashamed to say it". It's
straight facts all the way, Ren
doesn't attempt to hide anything.
Anyway, in my opinion, "Hounddogz"
is the best song on the CD (or EP).
It seems to be MC Ren's version
of Ice Cube's "Get Off My Dick
And Tell Yo Bitch". If you've heard
it you know what I'm talking about.
MC Ren critizises those who used to
dis him, and now that he's famous
they try to get back to him
like good old friends. On the 6th
and last song "Kizz My Black Azz"
he says: "Some of them are cool,
and they know who they are,the ones
that used to kick it with me
when I couldn't afford a car"
Anyway the last song is a musical
dissappointment. The CD/LP's executive
producer is Eazy-E, something that
should prove that Eazy and Ren still
hang together. Ren has also got help
from DJ Train, Bobcat, and Tha Dirt-
biker. I don't think he has forgotten
his other friends either, as he
mentions The DOC and Dr Dre in some
of the songs. The cover says MC
Ren of NWA, so it doesn't look
like Ren has thought about giving
up NWA yet.
If you liked "Niggaz4life", then
"Kizz My Black Azz" is a must.
Don't expect any love-songs, just
hardcore lyrics and beats straight
from the roots!
Verdict:¶38¶1/10
¶2Second out is Dr. Dre's "The Chronic".
It contains 15 songs, and it lasts for
about one hour. Many guest stars are
also featured: Snoop Dog, The DOC,
Korupt, Jewell, That Nigga Daz, RBX.
The CD doesn't contain many songs like
"Niggaz4life", or any other NWA
products for that matter, Dre uses
more melodic and a bit softer beats
than before. This especially on
"Let me Ride", where he has sampled
George Clinton's "Mothership
Connection". Also on "Lil' Ghetto Boy"
a melodic instrumental is used.
Dre hasn't leaved the old gangsta
style completely, that he proves on
"A nigga witta gun" and
"Rat-tat-tat-tat". A lotta Ragga hip
hop is also used, check out "Lyrical
Gangbang" and "The Day The Niggaz Took
over". It's not pure dancehall, but it
reminds a bit about it anyway.
It seemes to be that Dre has given up
NWA for good. Non of the other members
of NWA are mentioned or given credits,
so I don't think he will have anything
to do with Ren, Eazy and Yella
anymore. Dre's album "The Chronic" is
not at all as good as Ren's "Kizz My
Black Azz". Dre is not as hardcore and
underground as he once was, the CD is
a bit too much the same as many
others. An example on this is
"Nuthin But a G Thang" If I had to
choose between MC Ren and Dr.Dre
I'd gon for MC Ren, even if it only
contains six songs.
Verdict:¶36¶2/10
¶1For those who hasn't heard much of NWA
I can recommend "Straight outta
Compton", "100 Miles And Runnin'" and
the last, "Niggaz4life". These
contain classic cuts like "Fuck The
Police", "Express Yourself", "Appetite
For Destruction" and "Alwayz into
somethin'"
